The stator structure of permanent magnet synchronous motor is similar to that of ordinary AC motor, consisting of three-phase windings; The rotor uses permanent magnets (such as neodymium iron boron, samarium cobalt and other rare earth permanent magnet materials) instead of traditional excitation windings, which can generate a constant magnetic field without the need for an external excitation power supply. When three-phase AC power is applied to the stator, a rotating magnetic field is generated, and the permanent magnet rotor rotates synchronously under the action of the magnetic field.

The rotor is excited by permanent magnets, without rotor copper and excitation losses. The system efficiency can generally reach over 85%, and high-quality products can reach over 92%; It can still maintain high efficiency under light loads (such as fans, water pumps, etc. that operate for a long time below 70% of rated power), and has significant energy-saving advantages compared to asynchronous motors.

Under the same power, the volume and weight of permanent magnet synchronous motors are usually 30% -50% smaller than asynchronous motors, which is more conducive to compact space layout, such as electric vehicle drive systems, servo systems, etc.

By using vector control or direct torque control, high-precision speed and torque control can be achieved, with large low-speed torque and wide speed range, suitable for CNC machine tools, industrial robots, precision servos and other occasions.

The power factor is close to 1 and is independent of the number of poles, which can reduce the motor current and stator copper consumption, while reducing the supporting power supply capacity, switch and cable specifications, making the overall system more energy-efficient.
